The tambourine is made with a beech wood frame, animal skin base, which is then struck with the hands to produce the sound which is characterized by a rapid and engaging rhythm, which accompanies the traditional tarantella dance.
The tambourine joins other instruments, such as the guitar, accordion or bagpipe, to create a festive atmosphere.
Symbol of the popular culture and musical tradition of the region, which has ancient and deep roots. Today, the Calabrian tarantella and tambourine are still much loved and widespread, both in traditional and modern music.
